Philosophy and Introduction
Arts education should provide students with a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment to build community and improve as people and artists. As a teaching artist, I strive to create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere where young performers can develop the confidence to take risks and make bold choices. I believe in meeting students where they are and helping them develop the tools to grow. Every student is unique, so there is not one specific approach to teaching that works for every situation. I assess the strengths, weaknesses, and goals of each child to provide tailored instruction and help them flourish.
Since beginning my career as a teaching artist over a decade ago, I have taught many classes and camps for students ages three to eighteen. These classes have covered topics like acting, playwriting, devising, singing, improvisation, musical theatre, and dance. This section of my portfolio includes a curated selection of lesson plans and other educational materials I have created for some of those classes and camps.

Note: I created this guide for an event I coordinated at the YMCA where students got to meet two cast members of the North American Tour of Disney’s The Lion King. We also watched the 1994 Lion King film, so I did not include a plot synopsis in this guide.
